 Estimated income options

Get the most out of your estimated income

The discretionary income is what you have left over after paying your fixed costs. You get to spend on whatever you choose.

But ...
How you spend this money can make a difference to your financial position, but before that, we need to make sure of your estimated income
Estimated income options.

Rent/price

Vehicle operating expenses

Energy

debt

Groceries etc.

People who have an addiction of some kind will prioritize their spending so that the addiction is included in their fixed expenses.

As an adult, everyone has the freedom to choose if they are not in debt, which means that their freedom is eroded over the level of their debt.

The old saying "the borrower is the servant of the lender" sums it up.

We all have some control over most of our fixed expenses such as groceries and energy; We can cut these expenses but fix elements like rates/rent but until then we can choose to live in a more modest apartment or downsize.

The excess over your expenditures is called discretionary income.

Another way to increase your (discretionary) disposable income is to increase your income by getting a part-time job, landing a higher-paying job, or selling things online.

Providing your discretionary spending for a greater purpose rather than squandering it gives your life some meaning. Instead of just letting things happen, you are making things happen. Many people wondered in 10 to 20 years what had happened.

There is a big difference between saving and investing your money. Experienced investors use their discretion to increase their fortunes by investing in stocks, riskier stocks, gold, and cryptocurrencies. There are enough platforms online where you can trickle money into this stuff if you're still climbing the investment ladder.

But then you might prefer to save for a vacation and mark one or two items on your bucket list. Closing the borders will restrict your choice of places, but here in New Zealand, there are many great places to visit, which is an opportunity to discover your own backyard.

Among the most popular activities in New Zealand are landing on the Franz River and Fox Glacier, going for a dip in the Hanmer Springs hot pools, visiting the Marlborough wine region, or attending a sports meeting across the country. One thing I have to mention here is the Tranz Alpine Express train ride between Christchurch and Greymouth. It has been rated one of the finest train journeys in the world and after experiencing it I am not against it. It should be on everyone's wish list.

Setting financial goals is personal to you and gives your life a sense of purpose, and deciding how to spend your disposable income can help you achieve your financial goals.
